A
Daily
Bird Training Routine
Make
bird training a daily part of your parrot's routine. Not
only will this regimen help keep your bird training up to
date, it will also provide exercise for your bird's mind as
well as its body. A parrot that has something to do both
mentally and physically will be a better adjusted pet than a
bored bird that has little to do to keep its brain and body
busy.
Vary
the bird training routine each day to keep things interesting
for both you and your pet. Have your bird practice the
"up" and "down" commands from its play gym one day,
then make it climb a "ladder" you make with your fingers
next. Offer first one index finger, then the other, at
slightly higher levels to make your bird climb the
"ladder". Keep the sessions short-your parrot has about a
15 minute attention span, and trying to train it for a longer
period will only cause both of you to become frustrated. Try
to end on a positive note whenever possible, and be positive
and upbeat during each session. If you start to become angry
or upset with your bird, stop the training session and try it
again at another time when you're less tense. Your bird will
pick up on your emotions and may start to act up, which will
defeat the purpose of the training session.
